All services are tailored to what you need as an author. For example, some authors may need help with character development, while others need help with the old “show, don’t tell” adage. I offer guidance on how to strengthen the weak spots, from writing style to plot points. I also always include a discussion of what you do well; knowing your strengths is just as important as knowing your weaknesses!
Not all editors are created equal. Editors are humans too, and editing can be as subjective as the art of writing. It is important to determine if an editor is going to be respectful and understanding of your writing style and your story before you hire them. I do free 3000-word samples for every new client. The samples are as much for me as for you; it’s important to the success of both of us that we are a good author/editor match.
Professional Beta Reading
An analysis of your novel as it stands, along with in-text comments/reactions. This includes a one-hour video conference to discuss any question you may have and to talk through revisions.
$3 per 1000 words (for example, a 100,000-word manuscript = $300)
Deep Dive Developmental Editing
This a more deliberate and methodical version of my beta reading service. I comment on everything I see, from common grammatical errors to plot holes. You will get a complete report detailing recommended revisions in addition to detailed in-text comments and suggestions. This includes two video conferences (one hour each) to discuss questions, comments, and revisions.
$7 per 1000 words (100,000 words = $700)
Book Coaching
This package offers the same tailored deep dive as the developmental edit, along with a full reread once you complete edits. It also includes three video conferences (one hour each).
$11 per 1000 words (100,000 words = $1100)
